Kalk Bay road rage accused in court

The man accused of assaulting 65 year old Armien Israel in a road rage attack in Kalk Bay last week, appeared in Muizenberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old accused from Sea Point, is charged with charges of attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious injury/damage to property.

The attack occurred last week Monday just outside the Harbour House restaurant when Israel, a retired businessman who is suffering from lung cancer and emphysema, attempted to park his car in a disabled parking bay, in which the accused (who had no disabled sticker) had parked. Angry that Israel had parked his car in, the accused allegedly assaulted him. As a result of the attack Israel had to undergo a brain operation to have a blood clot removed. The accused was arrested and later released on R1000 bail.

After a brief appearance by the well-dressed accused in court yesterday, the case was postponed until October 18 for further investigations as the defense advocate said Israel’s medical records needed to be acquired from the Vincent Palloti Hospital where he was treated. – Fadela Slamdien, West Cape News
