This is just a sad state of affairs that Zimbabwe can let their consulate run down to this state. What is even worse is that Zimbabwe is right next door but its citizens in South Africa have been reduced to this. Its PATHETIC!
I have been to the Cape Town consulate myself. Saw the conditions that the refugees have to face daily. There are no windows, doors and rood has been vandalized.
It’s so sad that Zimbabwean refugees have to go all the way to Pretoria for the Zimbabwean government to issue them with valid passports.
But, as i indicated on my article, an official at the Zimbabwean embassy in Pretoria said satellite office would be located in Cape Town within two weeks. Watch this space.
“Saw the conditions that the refugees have to face daily. There are no windows, doors and rood has been vandalized.”
The Zim consulate building used to be ‘n beautiful, stately old place. The refugees themselves removed the floorboards, windows, roofing, toilets, etc. and sold them to second hand dealers in Woodstock. I live around the corner and I have called the police several times when seeing someone carrying window frames etc. down the road. The building has been informally demolished and defecated in. Petty crime in our neighbourhood has increased. Today the building was declared a problem building under the new bylaw. I’m hoping that it can now be entirely demolished.
Emmanuel and I are still waiting for a Cape Town consulate, I saw Sandiso’s article in WestCapeNews with today’s date BUT I now see that his comments were made five months ago!! and still no satellite office…
